Dick Stockton, President

Dick won his first national championship when he was ten years old.  By the time he exited junior tennis, he had won a total of twenty national titles, a record at the time.  He was a four-time All-American at Trinity University in Texas.  During his collegiate career, he reached the finals of the NCAA Doubles Championship, won the NCAA Singles Championship, and was a member of an NCAA Division I championship team.  After graduating from college, he played on the pro tour for thirteen years.  He won eight singles and sixteen doubles titles in his career.  His singles results in the major championships were highlighted by semi-final showings at Wimbledon and the French Open and two quarter-final finishes at the US Open. 

He also reached the semi-finals in the doubles competition at these same three major championships.  His two major titles were in mixed doubles, one at the US Open and one at the French Open.  He represented the United States in Davis Cup competition five times during the seventies, an experience that included winning the Cup in 1979. 

In his professional career, Dick had victories over the likes of Arthur Ashe, Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, Vitas Gerulaitis, Rod Laver, John McEnroe, John Newcombe, Ken Rosewall and Guillermo Vilas, among others.  He was ranked as high as number eight in the world in 1977; in the 35-and-Over division, he was ranked number one in the world in 1986 and number four in 1987.

Dick has been humbled by his induction into the Trinity University Athletic Hall of Fame, the Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame, the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame and the Eastern Tennis Hall of Fame.  At present, he is teaching in Palm Beach County and was active in the KAPTA (Kids and Police Tennis Association) program.

Liz Stockton, Vice President

Liz was a ranked junior player in the Eastern section of the USTA. She played four years of varsity tennis at Fordham University and has taught at various tennis clubs in New York, Texas, and Florida.

These clubs include Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York, T Bar M Racquet Club in Dallas, Texas, the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa in Jupiter, Florida and the Wellington Tennis Center in Wellington, Florida. 

Liz is a USPTA certified teaching pro (P1) and is currently teaching all levels of tennis in Palm Beach County.  She was a member of the teaching staff for the KAPTA (Kids and Police Tennis Association) program. 

Liz is trilingual (fluent in Spanish and Portuguese in addition to her native English).

Joy Scalisi, Secretary

Joy was a ranked junior player in the USTA-Eastern section, and she attended Bronxville High School in Bronxville, New York.  Over the years, she taught tennis at some of Westchester County’s most prestigious clubs, including the Bronxville Field Club, Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, NY and the Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY.  Joy has taught wheelchair tennis and has volunteered for numerous wheelchair tennis events in the New York, New Jersey area.   She attended Tulane University in New Orleans on an athletic scholarship, graduating in 1994 with a double major in International Relations and Spanish.  In 1999, she received her Master’s in Physical Therapy from Touro College in New York.  At the present time, she is pursuing her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the Arizona School of Health Sciences.

Joy currently lives in Staten Island, NY with her husband Paul and their two boys, P.J. and Matthew.  Most importantly, Joy is Liz Stockton’s sister and her best friend.

Ellen Stone, Treasurer

Ellen Stone has spent over 35 years in development, marketing, corporate consulting, and special events.

Currently serving as Director of Development at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Ellen oversees fundraising through memberships, donations, grants, and sponsorships in addition to managing a $50 million Campaign for the endowment to support operations and programming. Ellen also coordinates the management and communication for approximately 65 board members.

Prior to joining the NCMA nine years ago, Ellen had a 25-year career in sports marketing. While at ProServ, Inc. in Washington, DC, she directed over fifty professional men and women’s tennis tournaments in Washington and nationally.  

Ellen served as Director of Sales and Marketing for the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle, WA, for Turner Broadcasting Systems and, in 1995, joined the Organizing Committee for the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta as Director of Marketing.

Ellen independently consulted for a variety of corporations and organizations in marketing, sponsorship negotiations, sales, corporate hospitality, merchandising, and event management. 

Clients included the 2000 National Championships of Equestrian Eventing/the Foxhall Cup, Delta Air Lines, First Night New York 1993, Citibank, 1998 Davis Cup Tennis, 1999 Special Olympics World Summer Games Organizing Committee, and the International Rowing Federation among others.

Ellen is a native of Durham, North Carolina, and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She resides in Durham with her daughter, Anna.

David J. Kozlowski, Director

“The Koz” was one of the first  seventeen master tennis professionals in the world, as certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association.  He was named the USTA Broadcaster of the year in 2000 and was named the Pro of the Year twice: in 1978 in Alabama, in 1997 in Florida.  He was also named The National Pro of the year in 2001.

He produces and hosts “Inside Tennis with the Koz,” a program which was broadcast for five years on The Tennis Channel before continuing on www.IndieTennis.com.

The Koz presently lives in the Sarasota area on Florida’s west coast.
